Discussion on the liberalization of the energy market in Kosovo

On 26  March 2025, the Secretariat of the National Council for Economy and Investment (NCEI) and the German-Kosovar Business Association (KDWV) organized an open discussion with private sector representatives and public institutions to address Kosovo’s upcoming transition to the liberalized energy market.

Starting June 1, 2025, companies with more than 50 employees or over €10 million in turnover will be required to purchase electricity on the open market. The event served as a platform to explore the implications, challenges, and opportunities of this transition — from potential cost increases and competitiveness concerns to solutions like alternative energy investments.

With active participation from the Minister of Economy, the Energy Regulatory Office, businesses, and policymakers, the discussion emphasized the need for coordinated institutional support to ensure a smooth and sustainable shift for Kosovo’s economy.
